The five stages of grief: Elizabeth Kubler-Ross came up with five stages of grief to describe the different feelings people experience after someone close to them has died.
The stages are messy and can blend together or overlap.

  1. Denial – this is not happening to me.
  2. Depression – I can’t believe this is happening to me.
  3. Bargaining – What can I do to stop this from happening to me.
  4. Anger – Why does this have to happen to me.
