Fight Back Against Unhealthy School Lunches

This past Spring, we told you about Scottish schoolgirl Martha Payne, who at only 9-years-old  launched a blog,NeverSeconds, to speak out against unhealthy school lunches.

On her blog she posted pictures of her lunches along with a rating about its taste, nutrition, quantity eaten, price — hairs found (ew!).  Her blog received international attention, and gotten praise from healthy school lunch crusader Jamie Oliver.

How’s your school lunch program compare?

If your cafeteria is not serving up anything nutritious — or appetizing — you can make a difference, just like Martha did. On DoSomething.org, you can find action tips for displaying your school cafeteria’s nutrition information.  Informing your classmates about what they are eating is a great way to raise awareness: You can inspire your peers to help you make a change in your school’s meal planning, or at least help them make the healthiest choices possible.

Nutrition is so key to looking good and staying sharp throughout the school year. Make sure you check out  Heart of Gold nutrition so you can  stay motivated to eat right throughout the year.
