It’s National Girlfriends Networking Day!
Around here we are pretty big believers in the power of mentorship. Young entrepreneurs and activists need experienced professionals in their lives to support them and act as sounding boards as well as cheerleaders. That’s why we’re excited to celebrate National Girlfriends Networking Day today!
This is the first time The New Agenda, a national pro-women advocacy group, has hosted the initiative, and its organizers hope to make an annual day devoted to helping young
women advance and succeed.
“The objective is for women to think about the necessity of building connections and proactively planning career paths,” writes Amy Siskind, the president of The New Agenda, in a Huffington Post blog entry. “The goal is to promote and cultivate tomorrow’s leaders. Please get involved.”
What are some ways the ways you can participate? You could join an official event, happening in cities around the country, or watch live streaming from New York’s event featuring Siskind, Fox anchor Gretchen Carlson and more.
Or, here’s a more personal way to get involved in National Girlfriends Networking Day: Make it your goal today to send an email or call inviting a powerful woman you admire to coffee or lunch. This is such a great way to ask questions, get ideas, and start building a strong network that you can count on as you start building your career.
Need more help identifying a potential mentor? Talk to your school guidance counselor about finding a leader in your community or call up your local chamber of commerce. Teachers and relatives also can make good choices!
What are you doing to celebrate National Girlfriends Networking Day?

I’m celebrating National Girlfriends Networking Day by being thankful for all of the female mentors I have in my life! They inspire and motivate me to pursue my dreams, and I am grateful for their advice and guidance.
Love it… gratitude is a great place to be!
I think it is so important to find out and be curious on how others are trying to help make a change in a community. I look up to those who try to motivate anyone on achieving their goals and be the best they can be!
I have so many female mentors I love but, I’m celebrating national Girlfriends Networking Day by thanking the role model that I am inspired by the most: my mom. She pushes me to try hard and do everything 110%.
Your mom must be a pretty amazing woman! Thanks for sharing, Julia!
