GUEST POST: Alejandra Cerecedo, Writer, Photographer & Professional Dreamer
My name is Alejandra Cerecedo. I’m 17 years old, and I am a dreamer, just like you. I live in Mexicali Baja California, a city in Mexico that was made known by Lupita Jones, the first Mexican woman to win the title of Miss Universe in 1991. Mexicali forms a border with Calexico, California, just two hours away from San Diego.
I have many passions, some of which are reading and writing. My mom spoke French to me when I was very small, and since a young age, I’ve been taking lessons. I started showing the ability of understanding languages and its structure when I was about 2 years old. Using and writing words to express and organize my ideas has always come easily to me.
I also love tennis; I’ve been part of my club’s tennis team for about a year and a half. Right now, I’m working really hard in acquiring a sports scholarship at a university called Tecnologico de Monterrey, which is in Mexico City. Tennis is the activity that I dedicate the most time to. I train every day at least two hours. I’ve been competing in important tournaments in the United States to improve my level. Last summer, I went to an intense camp in Florida. It was a great experience, and I plan on going back this year. I’ve been playing tennis for a few years now, but the past two years have been hard due to the fact that I’ve had to correct a series of bad habits that didn’t let me develop my game to its greatest potential. The effort and time have been worth it, and even though I’m not an amazing player, I’m sure that with discipline and dedication I will be one soon.
Another one of my passions is photography. I love taking pictures of everything, especially landscapes and nature. Lately, I’ve been working on a project where I do shoots for people that are interested for the price of fifteen dollars. I have a blog in which I upload all my pictures to gain publicity for myself: www.alecphotography.tumblr.com. My dream is that one day I can photograph fashion models and famous actresses.
I like music a lot, too. Since the age of 4, I’ve been playing piano, but only the classical genre. When I was 9, I won second place in the most important national piano contest my city holds. A few years later, I was given a scholarship by the government, in which I was paid during 10 months so that I could fulfill my studies to the greatest potential. Currently, I play in the school orchestra, which plays music of all genres. It’s actually more fun than just the classical, although I love playing classical too. Right now, we’re preparing to play “Chicago: The Musical” live with the school play.
As you can see, I do a lot of things. I’m very energetic and creative, and I give 100% in all the things I do, which is very important for fulfilling my dreams. My greatest goal is to become a best-selling author, and writing here is my first step. By the end of the year, I will have the draft of my first novel finished.
Every goal is achievable if you believe in yourself. I’ve failed a thousand times: lost tennis matches after training my guts out, failed test I studied hours for, made ridicule of myself in piano recitals in an auditorium full of people, etc. Bad things will always be happening—you just have to look on the bright side, get over it, and be positive that next time you’ll do better. It’s not always about how good you are, it’s about how good you want to be. So fail until you get it right, fight for your dreams even if everyone says it’s impossible, and most important of all, never give up.
