Friday 5: Celebrating Mothers

Mothers can inspire us in so many ways: They can lead by example, mentor us, help plan fundraisers, root us on, cheer us up, and drive us to countless lessons, appointments, events and more.

With Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday May 13, 2012, we collected five quotes from celebrities and other famous faces talking about their own mothers (like Selena Gomez, pictured here).

Maybe you could write one down and send it along to your own mother or another inspiring female figure in your life?

ONE: Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State: “People ask me all the time, ‘How did you survive that?’ or ‘How do you do all this?’ It’s really because of my mother and the encouragement she gave me. My mom didn’t have very good mothering herself, so to learn how to mother with just on-the-job training was so inspirational to me.”

TWO: Maya Angelou, poet and author: “To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power.”

THREE: Selena Gomez, singer and actor: “She was really strong around me. Having me at 16 had to have been a big responsibility. My mom gave up everything for me, had three jobs, supported me, sacrificed her life for me.”

FOUR: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, actor: “My parents divorced when I was 8, and whenever I felt down, my mom would remind me that a sense of humor gets you through just about anything.”

FIVE: Jennifer Stone, actor from Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place: ”My mom always tells me, ‘Be the best you can be, because there’s no one else like you. In a world where so many people try to emulate others to fit in and be accepted, she’s taught me to be an individual.”

As Mother’s Day approaches us, tell us about the inspiring women in your life!
